The work is about the contradiction between reminding/forgeting and keeping/making new, about loss and change. “The only constant at the Dreispitz Basel is change”, says the Christoph Merian Foundation website. Ever since Heraclitus uttered “everything flows”, this formula has been generally applicable to many things. Change is not only apparent in buildings and indeed entire districts and regions, the people who live in and use these spaces also participate in it all the time. The words of Swiss writer Paul Nizon had a lasting impression on me. He wrote that a story ends every time you come home. What exactly did he mean by that? The demolition of the Hotel Restaurant Post in Ebnat-Kappel in the Toggenburg region in 2014 marked the end of the 122-year history of the house in which I grew up. Based on the collection of material gathered and my father’s stories about this house, I want to record the traces and memorabilia and thus build a physical reconstruction of factual memories from that place in order to make them live again.
