The practical part of the project for this Master’s thesis was inspired by a short story from Italo Calvino’s Cosmicomics entitled “The Distance of The Moon”. The story’s premise is that the moon was once much closer to the earth than it is now. Three main themes of the story were identified and visualised. These themes are metamorphosis, harmony and tension and opposite perspective. All these themes are used in the practical part of the project, although metamorphosis is the most important. The goal of the practical part of the project is to take the story as a starting point, visualise the theme of metamorphosis and create ideas based on it. The reasons and results of metamorphosis are explored. The goal of the theory part is to explore the terms metamorphosis, transformation and change. Both theory and practical parts are inspired by these terms.
